Subwoofer Wiring Diagrams

Step #1 – Choose the # of subwoofers you will wire in your system from one amplifier output

Step #2 – Specify 2 or 4 ohm single voice coil OR 2 or 4 ohm dual voice coil subwoofer(s)

The Subwoofer Wiring Diagram tool will then display two wiring options with the final impedance at the amplifier.

Select an amplifier(s) rated for the appropriate RMS power at whichever impedance you plan to wire your subwoofers. For example, 2 subwoofers rated at an RMS power of 250 watts would perform best with an amplifier that can provide around 500 watts RMS at whatever impedance you choose to wire the subwoofers.

# of Subs x RMS power handling of subs = RMS power rating of amplifier at final impedance of subs at the amplifier

Example: 2 subwoofers x 250 watts RMS each = 500 watts
If subwoofers are wired to a final impedance of 2ohms at the amplifier, you would want an amplifier capable of providing around 500 watts RMS at 2ohms

Depending on the quantity of subwoofers and amount of power required, you may need to consider using more than 1 amplifier to power your subwoofers. To do this, you would simply select the number of subwoofers you would be connecting to each amplifier. (Each diagram is designed using 1 amplifier.)

DO NOT use the MAX or PEAK power rating when trying to match an amplifier to the power handling of subwoofers. Be sure to use RMS (continuous) ratings.
